Get Your LLC in SC, Sis: Part Two

If you haven't read part one, STOP! You're missing very important information that can help your business!

In Part One, LEX covered naming your LLC, checking for availability, and getting a domain. Here's how to finish what you started.

4. File the SC LLC Articles of Organization

I know this may sound complicated, but I'll break it down for you.

You'll want to file with the Secretary of State, which can be done online or by mail. Your filing cost is a nonrefundable amount of $110. This is the best time to determine whether your LLC will be member managed or manager managed.

5. Create a SC Operating Agreement

This isn't required but it's good practice. This is basically a legal document outlining the ownership and operating procedures. It's also going to reduce the risk of future conflict.

6. Getting an EIN

An EIN is an Entity Identification Number, basically your social security number for the business. This number helps to identify businesses for tax purposes. Yes, Uncle Sam is going to get a piece of the pie too! Also an EIN is required if you wish to hire employees, open a business bank account, or file or manage Federal or State taxes. This is the best part because it's FREE!
